Sometimes I'm a bit of a creative insomniac and the only thing that helps me eventually get to sleep is to complete the creation of something. One of the things I like to do in these scenarios is write since I'm not going to find I'm out of the right supplies. Below is something I created on one such night (with some tweaks that I made later down the road).
I'm not sure if it's poetry, lyrics to an eventual song, or just a little rambling, but I hope you like it. If you don't, that's okay too, because I do.
Everyday we're seeing things
Desensitizing feelings
Their vibes and prayers sent
That wasn’t what you meant
Push out of sight out of mind
Doing nothing for mankind
A thoughtless thought is what they’re taught
Happy’s lost unless it’s bought
Affordable to those, already in new clothes Saying happy is within, and envy is a sin But when food is what you want And safety’s what you crave
And the only way to get it Might make you depraved
Do you fight? Do you try? Do rant and rave or cry? Do you live? Do you lie? Do you kill or do you die? Just tell yourself it’s alright Someone else will fight this fight
Scrape by in any way Things might end up okay Angers watered everyday
Want some hope, you’ve gotta pay
A system rigged for the low lives , living up that high life Just work a little harder, if you want out of your strife An army’s presence keeps us still They protect themselves with bills But in time, they will find No one’s left to run their mine
Cause though some stepped up to say
Things can’t go on this way
On deaf ears those sounds don’t play
And they can’t see what’s not their way
All this talk is good and fine But it drains the sand of time There for us to take An action that would break The chain that holds us tight Our tree of life's sick with blight
Do you fight? Do you try? Do rant and rave or cry? Do you live? Do you lie? Do you kill or do you die? Just tell yourself it’s alright Someone else will fight this fight
But if you're feeling moved, with nowhere to go Watch what happens when, your potential explodes
